The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has moved to confiscate assets valued at about Rs. 46 million, suspected to have been purchased with proceeds from drug trafficking by a female suspect in remand custody and her close associates.
Police said the woman, a resident of Nalagasdeniya in Hikkaduwa, was earlier arrested for possession of heroin and remains in remand.
Seized properties include a two-storey house and 1,908-perch land in Suduwella valued at roughly Rs. 24 million, an adjoining 12.72-perch plot, and a 20-perch land in Kalupe valued at about Rs. 4 million. Several additional plots of land and multiple vehicles have also been frozen pending further inquiry.
Police said nationwide operations targeting narcotics networks and illicit wealth accumulation are continuing. (Newswire)
