Police constable arrested for withdrawing Rs. 50,000 from suspect’s account


‎A police constable has been arrested for allegedly withdrawing more than Rs. 500,000 from the bank account of a suspect who had been taken into custody on drug possession charges.

‎Accordingy to Lankadeepa, the arrest was made on Wednesday (11) by officers of the Sri Lanka Police attached to the Galle Crimes Division, according to the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Galle District.

‎The constable, who had been attached to the Kosgoda Police Station, is accused of stealing the bank card of a suspect arrested on March 9 for allegedly possessing “Ice.”

‎Police said the incident came to light after a relative of the suspect lodged a complaint alleging that more than Rs. 500,000 had been withdrawn from the suspect’s bank account using the stolen card.

‎Following investigations, officers arrested the constable at a house in the Walambagala area of Elpitiya. (NewsWire)
