Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has refuted recent claims circulating on social media suggesting a financial crisis within the organization, stating that they are completely unfounded and misleading.
Issuing a clarification statement, the SLC affirmed that the cricket administration possesses sufficient financial stability to manage its operations as well as to implement its long-term strategic initiatives.
At present, SLC is actively and successfully engaged in preparations to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 alongside India, and to conduct 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 scheduled for September this year.
The SLC pointed out that such comprehensive planning and execution are only possible with sound financial backing.
As part of these efforts, international cricket venues across the country are being upgraded and refurbished to meet global standards, ensuring Sri Lanka’s readiness to host these prestigious events while also enhancing the nation’s cricketing infrastructure, it said.
The SLC further said that in parallel, it is also investing in a long-term sustainability initiative through the implementation of a Solar Power Project across its international venues.
“This ‘Green Initiative’ is designed to deliver a strong return on investment—supporting the environment, the future of the game, and the continued financial strength of the organization,” it said.
The SLC further said that apart from it, it is vigorously continuing to run unhindered its grassroots cricket development program, the National Pathway Program.
Sri Lanka Cricket emphasized that it remains committed to transparency, progress, and the development of the game, both locally and internationally. (Newswire)
