The Navy took hold of approx. 1416kg of smuggled Kendu leaves, during a search operation conducted in the sea area of Thalawila in Kalpitiya on 21 Oct 25.

SLNS Vijaya belonging to the Northwestern Naval Command retrieved this haul of Kendu leaves in 41 sacks, during a search operation in the sea area. It is suspected that smugglers would have left behind the consignment due to heightened naval surveillance in the area.

The consignment was handed over to the Excise Office, Puttalam for onward legal action.
