
In a powerful display of skill, dedication, and national pride, Mahadula Kumari brought home a gold medal for Sri Lanka at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2025, held from July 17–19 at the prestigious Anaheim Convention Center in California, USA.
Competing in the Under 40 Female Black Belt Individual Traditional Forms category, Mahadula outperformed athletes from across the world in an event that attracted over 2,000 participants. Remarkably, she was Sri Lanka’s only representative at this year’s championship, making her win even more impactful and inspirational.
Mahadula’s journey in taekwondo began at the University of Kelaniya, where she first trained and developed her foundation in martial arts. Her potential and discipline soon earned her a place in the Sri Lankan national team, representing the country in major international events. Throughout her athletic career, she has been mentored and coached by Mr. Ruwan Alahakoon, a respected figure in the local taekwondo community.

Known formally as Irangani Pushpa Kumari Mahadula, she is also a respected academic and currently serves as a Bachelor of Arts Instructor at the University of Kelaniya. Her taekwondo career includes participation at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships in Baku, where she competed in the Under 49 kg category. According to TaekwondoData, she holds a global lifetime athlete ranking of approximately 23,000, positioning her among the globally recognized martial artists.
