The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, and Uva provinces, and Galle, Matara, and Anuradhapura districts.

Per the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today (02), red alerts have been issued to 15 districts and amber alerts to 10 districts.

According to the Met Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the districts after 2.00 pm. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. 

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
