Veteran journalist Sajeewa Wijeweera passed away this afternoon while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.

He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital after suffering from a kidney-related illness.

Wijewira had served for several years as the Galle regional correspondent for Lankadeepa and was known for publishing a number of investigative reports during his journalism career.

He was 51 years old at the time of his passing and was a father of two.

His remains have been placed at his residence in Hapugala. The final rites are scheduled to be held tomorrow at 6.00 p.m. at the Dadalla Crematorium. (Newswire)
