Iranian drone strikes damage Amazon AWS data centers in UAE, Bahrain

Amazon Web Services said Iranian drone strikes have damaged three of its data center facilities in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, disrupting cloud services across parts of the Middle East.

According to a statement cited by Reuters, two AWS facilities in the UAE were directly hit, while a third center in Bahrain sustained damage from a nearby strike.

AWS said the attacks caused structural damage and disrupted power delivery to its infrastructure. In some instances, fire suppression systems were activated, leading to additional water damage inside facilities.

“These strikes have caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage,” AWS said, warning that recovery efforts could be prolonged due to the extent of the damage.

The affected facilities provide cloud services to governments, banks, media organizations and corporations across the region. The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Iran intensifying retaliatory drone and missile operations.

AWS said it is working to restore full service while assessing the full impact of the damage. (Newswire)
