International parcel service from Sri Lanka disrupted due to Middle East crisis

Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted international parcel shipments from Sri Lanka, the postmaster general said Tuesday (3).

Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara said the high number of cancelled flights to Middle Eastern destinations has directly impacted international postal services, causing delays and obstacles in sending goods to certain countries.

He said several consignments collected last Friday have yet to be dispatched due to flight cancellations and operational restrictions affecting the region.

Authorities have informed the public about the disruptions and are maintaining coordination with postal administrations in affected countries, Sathkumara said.

He expressed hope that services would return to normal once conditions stabilize, but warned that perishable or time-sensitive goods could be at risk during extended delays.

The disruptions are affecting not only Sri Lanka but also recipient countries, he added. (NewsWire)
