Heavy rains this evening caused flooding in several parts of Galle town, submerging a number of main and by-roads.

The Galle–Wakwella main road near the Galle Police, and the Galle–Baddegama–Mapalagama main road in Thalapitiya, Sarenthukade and Thanipolgah Junction were among the areas inundated. Several by-roads in the town were also under water.

Residents said poor maintenance of the drainage system and unauthorized structures blocking major canals had worsened the situation. They urged authorities to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents. (Newswire)
