Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya said Tuesday (3) that measures are being taken to introduce a risk allowance or increase the basic salaries of police officers.

IGP Weerasuriya said discrepancies in salary allowances provided to police personnel have been identified and authorities are reviewing the matter.

He said the move is being carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and the leadership of a subcommittee appointed to improve salary benefits for police officers.

According to the IGP, future steps will determine whether officers receive a basic salary increase or a separate risk allowance. (NewsWire)
