Four suspects were taken into custody today (24) along with two elephant tusks following a raid carried out in the Nikiniyawa and Olombewa areas, in Galgamuwa.
The operation was conducted by officers attached to the Galgamuwa Wildlife Zone under the guidance of the Assistant Director of the North Western Wildlife Region, acting on a tip-off received earlier today.
The suspects were produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded until August 7.
Officials also located the site where the elephant had been killed. Further investigations are being carried out by wildlife officer. (Newswire)
