Customs trade union alliance threatens TU action over promotion delay

The Customs Trade Union Alliance — including the Customs Staff Officers’ Association, the Senior Customs Superintendents Association, and the Customs Officers Association — has warned it will take trade union action if delayed promotions and salary issues are not resolved promptly.

The unions said the revised Recruitment Procedure (SOR) of the Customs Department, due to take effect on 13 February 2020, has still not been fully implemented, denying officers lawful promotions and pay for six years. Officers have been covering high-ranking duties without receiving the prescribed benefits, helping the department surpass revenue targets, the unions said.

They stressed they are not seeking new advantages but only the salaries and promotions owed under the procedure. Previous negotiations with authorities have failed, prompting warnings that further delays may compel union-led measures, which could impact the national economy and the public.

The unions described the prolonged delay as “an organized act” and demanded immediate written confirmation of promotions and pay entitlements. (NewsWire)
