A complaint has been filed with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on a message circulated on social media regarding the assassination of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was remanded until 26th August over the misuse of state funds for a personal overseas trip, is currently admitted at the Colombo National Hospital. 

A complaint was filed with the CID today by a group of persons, including former Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha member Prabath Dharshana, over a message on social media urging the assassination of Ranil Wickremesinghe while in hospital. 

Speaking to the media, Prabath Dharshana said that a message is being circulated on social media requesting to assassinate Ranil Wickremesinghe while in the hospital.

He said that, as such, a complaint was filed with the CID requesting that those responsible for such a message be apprehended immediately. (Newswire)
