A bus carrying employees of the Tangalle Municipal Council on an excursion toppled down a precipice along the Ella–Wellawaya main road on Thursday.

Police said the accident occurred near the 15th–24th kilometer posts of the road, with more than 20 people injured. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The bus had been transporting municipal staff on a trip when it veered off the road and fell down the slope. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. (Newswire)
