Bribery Commission files corruption case against Minister Kumara Jayakody

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed indictments at the Colombo High Court against Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody over allegations that he caused a financial loss to the government around a decade ago.
The indictments, filed under Section 70 of the Bribery Act, allege that procurement activities were conducted in a manner that gave an undue advantage to a private company.
The Commission said the alleged offence occurred in 2016, when Jayakody was serving as the Procurement Manager of the Lanka Fertilizer Company.
He is accused of causing a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the government by awarding a contract to a private company for carpet installation within the company’s warehouse premises. (NewsWire)
