A Hidden Life Beneath the Robes: The Untold Story of a Famous Buddhist Monk – Truth Revealed (Part 1)

“Deception Behind the Veil of Dhamma?”
Today, we are going to reveal a story that goes beyond gossip — a topic that has been widely discussed on social media and among the public in recent times. It’s about a well-known monk who is accused of secretly misusing donations, offered by devotees for the sake of the Buddha Sasana, for his personal benefit by hiding the money under his robes.
Over the past few years, this monk has been accused of using money and property donated for the Buddha Sasana for his own personal benefit. Here are some of the revealed details:
★ This monk kept lands donated by people for the Buddha Sasana under his own name and later sold them for a higher price.
★ He used money donated by people for the Buddha Sasana for his personal use.
★ Sending millions of rupees overseas through illegal methods.
★ Using that money to buy a luxury house in Australia under a woman’s name.
★ Being accused of forcefully taking over property that does not belong to him.
It has also been reported that this monk is now living a luxurious life in Australia.
Let’s start the story from here.
Did this monk really go to Australia just to study?
No, but on a popular YouTube channel, he says this:
“I’ve stepped away from preaching in Sri Lanka. Now, I’m learning English and hoping to preach in English in the future.”
Looking at that statement, it’s been about five years since he went to Australia — but so far, we haven’t seen or heard him preach in English anywhere. Whether that claim is true or not, we’ll look into it further. Let’s keep investigating.
Did this monk really go to Australia on a student visa? Here are the hidden plans.

No, it was on a business visa. This monk has been unable to travel to Australia for some time. The reason is that during previous visits to Australia, he allegedly collected money from people living there and returned to Sri Lanka. Because of this, several temples in Australia have filed complaints with the Australian immigration authorities.

Due to these reasons, no one has come forward to provide him with sponsorship. He has been in discussions with a visa agency in Moratuwa about the possibility of obtaining a student visa. However, the head of the agency has noted that because he has not maintained continuous studies for an extended period, he is unlikely to qualify for the visa. Meanwhile, it was suggested to the monk that he pursue an online certificate from India, which could potentially enable him to obtain a student visa. According to information we received, he was given approximately two million Sri Lankan rupees to pursue this option. However, that attempt was unsuccessful.
At the same time, the head of the agency proposed another option to the monk: if he could invest around nine million rupees, he might be able to obtain a business visa to Australia. Additionally, he would need to demonstrate ownership of property or businesses, as well as savings or fixed deposits in his bank accounts. We also learned that the monk experienced considerable anxiety regarding his plans to go to Australia. We will discuss the nature of that anxiety later.
Recently, social media has been a buzz with discussions on this matter.
Aware that Sri Lanka does not offer a free environment to satisfy the excessive desires arising in his mind, this robe-wearing monk frequently travels to Australia because he finds there the freedom he seeks to fulfill those cravings. Each time he travels, he does not forget to smuggle unaccounted-for money—originally donated by devotees—converted into dollars abroad and brought to Australia. Exploiting his robe, monastic status, and reputation, he repeatedly carried out these actions under the watchful eyes of airport security and customs officials in Sri Lanka. Disregarding the sacredness of donations given by vulnerable people for the sake of the Buddhist order, he spends such money on women, using wealth that he did not earn through honest means. Fond of luxury, this monk regularly travels to Australia on business-class air tickets funded by the donations of helpless devotees, ostensibly to visit his unauthorized partner. By engaging in such unwholesome conduct with women, he has violated the Buddhist Vinaya rules and can no longer be considered a true monk.
The story behind the turmoil / A business visa obtained through hidden assets and an 8 million rupee deal.
★ This is a photo posted on his official Facebook page.

As these events became public, he has been deleting this photo and other evidence.
We have learned that approximately 8 million rupees, from the donations made by the public for the Buddhist Order, have been spent as a payment to the owner of that organization in exchange for arranging this visa. Although the agreed amount was reportedly 9 million rupees, it is said that he has paid only 8 million.
Furthermore, a woman residing in Australia is said to have helped him in acquiring this business visa. It has also been revealed that large sums of money have been transferred from Sri Lanka to her bank account in Australia through the “Undiyal” (informal money transfer) system.
Due to the continuous deposits of money from unknown sources into her account, two of her bank accounts have now been frozen.
These events indicate that a significant financial network exists, where resources donated for the benefit of the Buddhist Order have been secretly kept and used for commercial purposes, with the intention of migrating abroad.

A Hidden Story Behind a Luxury House, Illegal Money, and Two Women.
Nevertheless, this deceitful woman brought the monk to Australia and had him reside in her home. She has also visited Sri Lanka several times. While working in a regular job in Australia, she received assistance from this millionaire monk to start a travel business. This support was driven both by the excessive trust she placed in him and by the sexual relationship they shared.
The monk’s involvement didn’t stop there. As things progressed further, he arranged for the transfer of more than 200 million Sri Lankan rupees from Sri Lanka to Australia via the illegal Undiyal system, in an attempt to purchase a house in Springwell, Australia, under the woman’s name. However, this attempt failed because another woman related to him had already set her sights on the property. This led to a conflict between the two women.
Despite all this, it has now been revealed that this monk has been misusing funds that were donated by innocent and vulnerable Sri Lankans for the benefit of the Buddhist Order. These donations have been illegally funneled to Australia, and a luxurious house has been purchased under the name of the woman residing there.
In addition, the previously mentioned woman has also been granted ownership of the travel business.
Following the emergence of this story on social media, the monk—disturbed by the situation—attempted to address the controversy surrounding the ultra-luxurious house he had secretly kept hidden from the public for nearly five years. On April 6, 2025, he published a post on his official Facebook page, crafting a narrative to mislead people and offer a partial explanation. However, within a few hours, the post was deleted—reportedly because its content inadvertently confirmed the story, and began to circulate widely.
Although he had occasionally posted updates on his Facebook page regarding certain activities of the individuals involved, the fact that such a significant donation had been kept secret raised many eyebrows. The second major reason behind the deletion of the post was the growing whispers among staff at his own organization, suggesting that he had indeed acknowledged the truth of the matter.

It was stated that this house had been donated by a devotee in Australia. We promise to reveal more about this individual and the relevant evidence in due course.
What is particularly noteworthy is that this monk, who never forgets to promote most of his activities on Facebook, remained completely silent about this for nearly five years. Why?
Among the photos he posted, the presence of a well-known Sri Lankan cricketer also stood out. It raises a serious question—why did such a significant occasion go unmentioned on his official Facebook page? The answer is clear: there was something he wanted to hide from the public.
Engaging in conduct that contradicts the Buddhist monastic code and misusing money donated by the faithful for the benefit of the Buddhist order for his personal use, such monks must be held accountable. The Sri Lankan government should enforce civil law against these individuals, regardless of their religious status.
We will continue to expose further details about this robe-wearing individual—who, while presenting himself as a Buddhist monk, uses donations for personal luxury—in Part Two of our report.
