The National Tsunami Early Warning Center of the Department of Meteorology announced that an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the Indian Ocean off Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 10:26 am today (27).
According to the Earthquake Information Bulletin, the tremor was recorded at a depth of 25 km, with preliminary coordinates at latitude 2.68°N and longitude 96.07°E.
While no tsunami warning has been issued at this stage, people living near and along the coastal areas around Sri Lanka have been advised to remain attentive to future announcements in this regard. Authorities said the latest updates will be communicated to the public through the media as more information becomes available.
