Four youngsters drowned while bathing in the Deduru Oya in the Chilaw area this evening (5), police said.

The group of about ten individuals from the Kiribathgoda area had reportedly stopped to bathe during a leisure trip when the tragedy occurred.

One person rescued by area residents has been admitted to the Chilaw Hospital for treatment.

Search operations carried out by the Chilaw Police, the Police Life Saving Unit, the Navy, and local residents have since recovered the bodies of the four victims.
