Football icon David Beckham knighted by King Charles

Former football star David Beckham has been officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, fulfilling a long-held dream for the global sports icon.

The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, honoured for his services to sport and charity, attended the ceremony alongside his wife — now Lady Victoria — and his parents, Ted and Sandra. Beckham, 50, wore a grey three-piece suit designed by his wife, inspired by an outfit once worn by the King.

“[King Charles] was quite impressed with my suit. He’s the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years,” Beckham said.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Sir David described the moment as deeply emotional. “I cried when I first found out, and probably for a few months after it as well,” he admitted. “It’s been not stressful, I’ve not been nervous, just emotional. I get that from my mum! It’s such a big moment for my family. It’s so special.”

Beckham, who was named on the King’s Birthday Honours list earlier this year, said receiving the title was the culmination of a journey that celebrated both his football career and his charitable work.
