Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage says the national men’s cricket team’s performance should not be scrutinised due to the loss of just one series.
Speaking to reporters, the Sports Minister reminded that the team had won both the test and ODI series against Bangladesh.
“We won the Test series and the ODI series against Bangladesh. But we are talking about the one series we lost. This is unfair to our cricketers,” he said.
Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage pointed out that it is ordinary for a team to win two tournaments and lose one.
He further revealed that steps have been taken together with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to elevate the sport of cricket in the country.
“Together with the SLC and guidance of Head Coach Sanath Jayasuriya, measures are being taken to create an environment to bring back the sport of cricket to its former glory. This is the responsibility of the SLC, to which we are giving our support,” he said. (Newswire)
