Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha met with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at his private residence in Tangalle on Wednesday.

The meeting took place after Rajapaksa was forced to vacate his official state residence in Colombo under a new law that removed perks and entitlements for former heads of state. The legislation, passed earlier this month, required ex-presidents to give up state-funded housing and other benefits.

Rajapaksa has since moved back to his family home, Carlton House, in Tangalle. The Indian mission confirmed the meeting in a social media post, though it did not disclose details of their discussions.
