The Irrigation Department has issued an Amber flood warning for the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River following considerable rainfall in upstream catchment areas.

The warning, issued at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday (20), will remain valid until 9.30 a.m. on Monday (21).

The department said a minor flood situation could develop in low-lying areas of the Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga valleys within the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palinda Nuwara Divisional Secretariat divisions.

There is also a high risk of roads running through the flood plains being inundated, while residents and motorists in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant.

Disaster management authorities have been asked to take necessary precautions. (Newswire)
