Gammanpila calls for probe into Shani Abeysekara, Ravi Seneviratne over Easter attacks

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila has called for fresh legal action against CID Director Shani Abeysekara and Ministry of Public Security Secretary Ravi Seneviratne following the recent court verdict against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Addressing a media briefing today, Gammanpila argued that if Hemasiri Fernando and Pujith Jayasundara were found criminally liable for failing to prevent the attacks despite receiving intelligence warnings, then similar or even stronger allegations could be made against Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne.
He alleged that both officials had prior knowledge of investigations involving Zahran Hashim and claimed there had been multiple failures in handling intelligence and investigations before the attacks.
Gammanpila further alleged that a previous investigation into the conduct of Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne had been halted after the change of government, and called for that probe to be reopened.
He also urged the government to temporarily remove Shani Abeysekara from his position as CID Director and Ravi Seneviratne from his post as Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security while any investigation is conducted. (Newswire)
