A 36-year-old driver was killed in an accident at the Colombo Port container yard when a container fell onto a prime mover truck.

Police said the incident occurred yesterday (8) while the container was being loaded onto the truck. It had reportedly struck another container before toppling onto the vehicle.

The driver, a resident of Dadigama, sustained critical injuries and died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

The crane operator involved in loading the container has been arrested. Colombo Port Police are conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
