The official concept paper of the National High Performance Centre was formally handed over to Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamagedara at the Ministry of Sports yesterday, marking a key step in advancing Sri Lanka’s sporting ambitions.

The project, designed to elevate the country’s sports sector to international standards and enhance the skills of athletes, is expected to be implemented in a more structured manner through the newly presented concept paper.

The occasion was organized under the leadership of Prasanna Jayalal and saw active participation from members of the Sports Council, the Department of Sports Development, expert committee members, representatives of the Medical Institute, and officials from Sri Lanka Cricket.

Speaking at the event, officials noted: “Through the establishment of this Centre, athletes in the country will be able to access international‑level training facilities, and a new era in the field of sports will be created.”

With the implementation of the concept paper, the groundwork is already being laid to strengthen Sri Lanka’s sports training and scientific background, taking it to a new dimension and ensuring athletes benefit from modern, world‑class facilities. (Newswire)
