At least 19 people were hospitalised following a collision involving a private bus and a motorcycle on the Matara–Tissamaharama main road in Weerawila.

Police said 11 men and eight women were among the injured.

The accident occurred near the Weerawila Divisional Secretariat when the bus, travelling from Tissamaharama towards Matara, collided with the motorcycle. It then veered off the road and struck a tree.

The injured were admitted to the Debarawewa Hospital, while four people in critical condition were later transferred to the Hambantota General Hospital.
