The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that the manufacture, packing, distribution, transportation, storage, sale, and display for sale of certain sanitary towels without valid SLS certification will be prohibited from October 8, 2026.

According to Direction No. 99 issued by the CAA, locally manufactured and imported single-use sanitary towels must carry the relevant SLS Product Certification Mark issued by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI).

The requirement applies to:

• Single-use sanitary towels certified under SLS 1732
• Single-use ultra-thin/slim sanitary towels certified under SLS 1748

The CAA advised consumers to check whether sanitary towels they purchase carry a valid SLS certification mark on the packaging.

The authority said the move was introduced to ensure product quality and consumer safety. (Newswire)
