Parliament to convene from July 21 to 24

Parliament will convene from July 21 to 24, Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera said, following decisions taken by the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne on July 10.
On July 21, Parliament will debate two special motions from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. One seeks to refer to the Attorney General a report by the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) on the scheme granting permits for Sri Lankans employed overseas to import fully electric vehicles. The other calls for matters uncovered during investigations by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) to be referred to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for appropriate legal action.
From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the same day, Parliament will debate an adjournment motion on the performance of the Committee on Public Petitions.
On July 22, most of the day’s proceedings will be allocated for 50 oral questions, while time has also been set aside for questions under Standing Orders and adjournment questions.
On July 23, Parliament is scheduled to debate two regulations issued under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act for approval, followed by an adjournment motion to be moved by the government.
On Friday (24), private members’ motions will be taken up from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., after which Parliament will debate an adjournment motion to be moved by the opposition. (Newswire)
