Travel ban on Prasanna Ranatunga temporarily relaxed

Former minister Prasanna Ranatunga has been granted temporary permission to travel overseas after the Colombo Magistrate’s Court relaxed a travel ban imposed in connection with a corruption case against him.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order on Tuesday (14) after Ranatunga sought permission to travel abroad for a personal matter through his counsel, President’s Counsel Anil Silva.
Representing the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), an officer told the court that the commission had no objection to an order the court deemed appropriate.
The magistrate allowed the request on condition that Ranatunga furnish an additional personal bail of Rs. 1 million. The order will take effect once the bail is furnished, after which the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration will be notified.
Ranatunga was also ordered to appear before the court again on Aug. 4 as proceedings in the case continue. (Newswire)
