Trump says Iran deal talks halted planned US strikes
US President Donald Trump says he has cancelled planned military strikes against Iran after negotiations with Tehran reached what he described as the highest level of Iranian leadership and received approval.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump said the United States had been preparing to carry out strikes and bombings against Iran on Wednesday evening but that the operation was called off following progress in talks.
He claimed that discussions and final points of a proposed agreement had been approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Egypt.
Trump said details regarding the time and location for the signing of the agreement would be announced shortly.
However, he noted that the naval blockade currently in place would remain in force until the transaction is fully finalised. (Newswire)
