Joint Opposition calls for probe into CIABOC Director General

The Joint Opposition has formally written to the Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), Justice Neil Iddawala, urging an impartial inquiry into allegations against Bribery Commission Director General Ranga Dissanayake.
In its letter, the Opposition claimed that multiple complaints have surfaced accusing Dissanayake of carrying out his duties in a biased manner.
The Joint Opposition cited a sworn statement by former SriLankan Airlines CEO, the late Kapila Chandrasena, who alleged that the Director General pressured him to implicate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and MP Namal Rajapaksa in a corruption matter. Chandrasena further claimed he was threatened before his case was filed.
The Joint Opposition argued that such allegations raise serious doubts about the impartiality of the Bribery Commission and amount to misconduct.
It stressed that under the Anti‑Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023, the Bribery Commission has the authority to conduct disciplinary inquiries and take action against its Director General if he fails to uphold his duties.
The letter requested three key actions:
- An immediate impartial inquiry into the allegations mentioned in the sworn statement.
- Temporary removal of Ranga Dissanayake from CIABOC duties until the inquiry is concluded, to prevent undue influence.
- Legal action based on the findings of the inquiry report.
The Joint Opposition emphasized that the credibility of the Bribery Commission depends on impartiality and adherence to the principles of justice, and called on the Chairman to act decisively to restore public trust. (Newswire)
