Two red notice suspects among Dubai deportees: Police reveal more details

Sri Lanka Police have revealed further details regarding the 21 suspects deported from Dubai and brought back to the island as part of an ongoing crackdown on organised crime.

Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Colombo Division, Nishantha de Zoysa, stated that five of the deported individuals have been identified as organised criminals, while two of them were wanted under Interpol Red Notices.

The suspects have been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division for further investigations, he said.

DIG de Zoysa noted that the deportations were carried out through coordinated multi-agency investigations and diplomatic efforts involving local and foreign authorities.

He added that between 68 and 70 suspects have so far been repatriated to Sri Lanka through similar operations.

According to Police, authorities have also secured 226 additional Red Notices against suspects abroad, including 90 individuals identified as organised criminals.

The wanted suspects are believed to be residing in countries including Dubai, India, Indonesia, Russia and Thailand, and efforts are underway to bring them back to Sri Lanka, he said.

DIG de Zoysa further stated that a total of 272 firearms have been recovered during recent operations. The haul includes 83 T-56 assault rifles, one M16 rifle, 113 pistols and 75 revolvers. (Newswire)
