Opposition unites, seeks urgent All Party Conference over worsening economic signals

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says opposition parties have united amid growing concerns over Sri Lanka’s economic situation, warning that the country is once again facing dangerous warning signs linked to the rapid depreciation of the Rupee.
In a statement issued today, Premadasa said rising cost pressures and increasing uncertainty should not be viewed as a partisan issue, stressing that the developments require an urgent national response.
“Today, the Opposition came together in unity because the country is once again staring at a dangerous economic warning sign,” he said.
Premadasa announced that the Opposition has decided to formally request President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to immediately convene an All Party Conference to discuss and develop urgent solutions.
He said the move is aimed at finding collective national responses before the situation escalates further.
The call comes amid growing political debate over recent volatility in the foreign exchange market and concerns over the weakening Sri Lankan Rupee. (Newswire)
