SLC irregularities “far greater than feared” : Forensic audit ordered

Sri Lanka Cricket’s Transformation Committee President Eran Wickramaratne says financial irregularities within the country’s cricket board are far more serious than initially feared, while promising a forensic audit and sweeping reforms.

Speaking at his first media briefing since assuming the role, Wickramaratne said the committee had already moved to scrutinise SLC finances.

“We have already ordered a forensic audit of the accounts,” he said, adding that financial irregularities were “far greater than initially feared.”

The Transformation Committee was appointed by the government to oversee reforms and restructuring at Sri Lanka Cricket following the resignation of the previous administration.

The developments had initially raised concerns over possible action from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has previously suspended Sri Lanka Cricket over political interference.

Wickramaratne said discussions with the ICC regarding reforms had been constructive.

“Our talks with the ICC have been extremely cordial and constructive,” he said, adding that the committee had maintained an open and transparent approach.

Among the planned reforms is the drafting of a new constitution aimed at addressing governance concerns and preventing prolonged control by specific groups within the board. (NewsWire)
