MP Archchuna clarifies his “handover Jaffna to Tamil Nadu” comment

Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan has clarified remarks he made in Parliament on Tuesday (5), in which he suggested that Jaffna, along with Katchatheevu, should be handed over to Tamil Nadu.
The MP said his comments were misinterpreted by the media due to a misunderstanding of his Tamil language.
Responding to criticism, Ramanathan said his statement in Tamil was made ironically in the context of the alleged seven agreements signed between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He insisted that he was not calling for Sri Lanka to be divided and stressed that he loves the country.
“I will not sell my country. We are people who fought for this country. Sri Lanka is my country,” he said.
Ramanathan added that his remarks were intended as criticism of the agreements signed with India. He further stated that if the government continued to “give everything to Modi,” those who support such agreements should “go to Modi,” while others could “go to Tamil Nadu.” (NewsWire)
