NTB completes HSBC Sri Lanka retail business acquisition

Nations Trust Bank PLC has completed the transfer of HSBC Sri Lanka’s retail banking business, bringing around 200,000 customer accounts under its portfolio effective May 1.
The acquisition includes savings and current accounts, fixed deposits, credit and debit cards, retail loans and high-net-worth clients, who will now be managed under Nations Trust Bank’s private banking segment.
The bank said HSBC Sri Lanka’s retail customers and staff have been integrated into its operations, with steps taken to ensure continuity of service and minimal disruption during the transition.
Following the transfer, Nations Trust Bank’s branch network has expanded to 96 locations nationwide, including seven newly added branches. Four of these — Bambalapitiya, Flower Road, Union Place and Pelawatte — will operate as dedicated private banking centres, while the others are in Nugegoda, Jaffna and Kandy.
Customers will continue to have access to banking services through branches, a 24-hour hotline and digital platforms, including the Nations Direct mobile app. The bank also extended branch operating hours across selected weekends to assist customers during the transition.
The move follows a sale and purchase agreement signed in September 2025, with regulatory approval granted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in December.
Nations Trust Bank said the acquisition is expected to strengthen its position in Sri Lanka’s banking sector and expand its reach in retail and private banking services. (Newswire)
