Forensic panel appointed for post-mortem into suspicious death of Finance Ministry official

A committee comprising four forensic medical experts has been appointed to conduct the post-mortem examination of the Assistant Director of the Ministry of Finance, whose death is being treated as suspicious.
Secretary to the Ministry of Health, specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, said that steps have been taken to appoint a panel of four judicial medical experts to carry out the examination.
Assistant Director of the Department of External Resources of the Ministry of Finance, Rangani Nishantha, who had been suspended in connection with an incident involving the transfer of US$2.5 million to a third party during a foreign debt settlement by the Treasury, was found dead under suspicious circumstances yesterday.
His body was discovered near his residence, and police are conducting investigations into whether the death was a suicide.
A magisterial inquiry into the incident was held yesterday, and the body has been transferred to the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital for the post-mortem examination. (NewsWire)
