The first stage of cheque distribution under the government’s relief programme for families affected by Cyclone Ditwah was carried out today in the Badulla Divisional Secretariat Division.

A total of 23 families received housing assistance cheques during a ceremony held at the Uva Provincial Council. 

The initiative marks the beginning of financial support aimed at helping affected households rebuild homes damaged or destroyed by the cyclone.

According to officials, families whose houses were completely destroyed will receive Rs. 500,000 each, while those whose homes were partially damaged will be granted Rs. 50,000, the minimum compensation amount provided without formal estimation.

Today’s distribution represents the initial phase of the relief programme, with further support expected as reconstruction efforts continue. (Newswire)
