Govt to establish six short‑term drug rehabilitation centres

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by the Minister of Public Security to establish six short‑term treatment and rehabilitation centres and recruit the staff required to operate them, under the government’s “Ratama Ekata” (A Nation United) anti‑drug programme.

According to the government, with the recent implementation of the programme, the number of individuals voluntarily seeking treatment services has risen sharply, leaving existing residential facilities unable to meet demand.

To address this, six underutilized state buildings have been identified for conversion into treatment and rehabilitation centres, which will be formally gazetted.

The new centres are intended to expand structured treatment and rehabilitation services nationwide, ensuring timely access for those seeking voluntary recovery. (Newswire)
