Sri Lanka agrees to join India-led International Big Cat Alliance

Sri Lanka has agreed to join the India-led International Big Cat Alliance, according to a list of outcomes released following the visit of Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to Sri Lanka.

The announcement was included among several bilateral outcomes issued on April 19 after talks between the two countries.

The International Big Cat Alliance is an initiative led by India focused on the conservation and protection of seven major big cat species globally — tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma.

Sri Lanka’s agreement to join the alliance signals closer cooperation with India on wildlife conservation, environmental protection and biodiversity initiatives.

The move was announced alongside other India-supported projects in Sri Lanka, including housing, healthcare, railway rehabilitation, scholarships and development assistance. (Newswire)
