Afternoon showers expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts after 2.00 pm today (09).
According to the Department of Meteorology, mainly dry weather will prevail over the other parts of the island.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Ampara district in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be South-westerly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota may be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
