President to announce special economic relief package today

Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake, has announced that Cabinet approval has been granted for a special relief package for groups affected by the Middle East conflict.

Addressing the Parliament today, Minister Rathnayake said that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will brief Parliament on the details at 12.00 noon today (07).

“We proposed a new relief package at the Cabinet meeting yesterday. As we know, the President appointed a committee headed by Minister Upali Pannilage to provide welfare services to needy groups, taking into account the fuel and other impacts of the Middle East crisis. The President will brief the Parliament today on the proposed relief package, which has been approved by the Cabinet,” he said.

Minister Bimal Rathnayake made the remarks in response to a question raised by Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathileka on the measures taken by the government to provide relief to the public. (Newswire)
