“Deeply Hurt”: Chandimal responds to False Fitness Test claims

Sri Lanka cricketer Dinesh Chandimal has rejected media reports claiming he failed a recent fitness test, stating that the information circulated was false and unverified.

In a statement, Chandimal said he was “deeply hurt and disappointed” by the report, noting that publishing such claims without proper verification creates unnecessary pressure, mental stress, and emotional strain on players representing the country.

The former Sri Lanka captain clarified that he had successfully passed the required fitness test and had received official confirmation from the relevant authorities.

“I have successfully passed the required fitness test. I have official confirmation from the relevant authorities regarding this,” Chandimal said, adding that he does not feel the need to publicly release further details as the team management and he are aware of the facts.

Chandimal also stressed the importance of media ethics, warning that unverified reporting could directly impact a player’s career, reputation, and future. He further noted that sensitive player data should remain between players and team management rather than being used for speculation.

He also requested media institutions to clearly mention sources when publishing such information to ensure transparency and accountability.

Meanwhile, several other Sri Lanka cricketers have also reportedly disputed a list published by a local television channel claiming that a number of players had failed fitness tests, describing the information as false.

Chandimal thanked fans for their continued support and urged media organizations to verify facts carefully before publishing sensitive information related to players. (Newswire)
