A seven-year-old student was killed and another injured after a vehicle ran over two children inside an international school in the Mahaiyawa area of Kandy on Thursday (12).

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a vehicle belonging to a member of the school’s board of directors suddenly moved forward after being parked.

The vehicle had been parked and the driver had stepped out when it reportedly moved due to a brake failure.

The vehicle struck two students who were drinking water on the school premises at the time.

One child died from injuries sustained in the accident, while the other was admitted to Kandy National Hospital for treatment.

The owner of the vehicle has been arrested and police are conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
