A Sri Lankan woman has been found dead at a rural property in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley in Australia, as police investigate what is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide.

Australian media reported that the bodies of 47-year-old Chamindika Jayawardena and her partner, 46-year-old Aaron Hammond, were discovered at a home on McGraths Track in Hernes Oak, near Morwell, earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to the property at around 12.15 p.m., where the two bodies were found inside the residence.

According to reports, neighbours said they heard two loud bangs on Saturday night, initially believing the sounds were fireworks or gunshots aimed at foxes.

Victoria Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths are still being investigated. Authorities confirmed that the man and woman were known to each other and said they are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
