Namal Rajapaksa urges swift action to resolve gas shortage

Opposition lawmaker Namal Rajapaksa has called on the government to take immediate steps to address the ongoing domestic LP gas shortage reported in several parts of the country.

Rajapaksa said the shortage has already affected many regions, causing hardship to households. He urged the government to urgently release LP gas  from the terminal located in the Hambantota Port economic zone as a temporary measure to ease supply constraints.

He said delays and indecision by previous administrations had contributed to earlier crises, emphasizing that timely policy decisions are essential to prevent further disruption and public inconvenience.

Although the Hambantota gas terminal is primarily used for re-export operations, Namal said the policy should be revised under the current circumstances to allow gas supplies to be released to the domestic market until the shortage is resolved. (NewsWire)
