Govt pays Rs. 3.2 billion in compensation to livestock farmers hit by Ditwah

The government has completed compensation payments totaling over Rs. 320 million to livestock farmers whose farms were damaged by the Ditwah cyclone, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne said on Saturday (7).
The payments were made to farmers who lost cattle, pigs, goats, broiler chickens, and layer chickens due to the disaster.
Karunaratne made the remarks while attending a national cattle and goat vaccination program. He said the compensation is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support farmers affected by extreme weather events.
In addition to compensation, the government has launched a post-disaster emergency vaccination program to protect livestock, with Rs. 250 million allocated under World Bank assistance.
The deputy minister added that further support will be provided to rehabilitate and restore livestock farms damaged by the cyclone. (NewsWire)
