Constitutional Council approves new Auditor General

The Constitutional Council has unanimously approved the appointment of Senior Deputy Auditor General Samudika Jayaratne as the new Auditor General of Sri Lanka.
The decision was made during a meeting held at 12:00 p.m. today (Feb. 3) at the Parliament Complex, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.
The Council considered the latest nominations submitted by the President, following earlier rejections of previous recommendations.
The Auditor General position had been vacant since April 8, 2025, after the retirement of W.P.C. Wickramaratne. Dharmapala Gammanpila served in an acting capacity until December 5, 2025.
Jayaratne’s appointment follows several rounds of deliberation and concludes a nearly 10-month vacancy in the key oversight role. (Newswire)
