Several spells of light showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts today, according to the Department of Meteorology. 

Fairly strong winds of about 40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the North-central and North-western provinces and Hambantota district. 

Meanwhile, light showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Kalpitiya and Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Kalpitiya and Mannar may be fairly rough at times. (Newswire)
